Authorities in Bangladesh have launched an investigation after a Hindu temple caretaker was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the southeastern district of Cox’s Bazar, officials said on Sunday.
The victim, identified by local media as a temple caretaker, had reportedly been missing for three days before his body was discovered hanging from a tree in a hilly area near his village.
According to police and local residents, the man was last seen on the evening of April 19, when he allegedly left with two unidentified individuals. His body was recovered several days later in a partially decomposed state, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
Law enforcement officials said they have yet to determine whether the incident was a case of suicide or homicide. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, which is expected to provide more clarity on the cause of death.
The incident has sparked concern among local communities and minority groups, who have called for a thorough and transparent investigation. Some organisations have demanded swift action against those responsible, urging authorities to ensure justice if foul play is confirmed.
Police officials stated that an active probe is underway and that all possible angles are being examined. They have not ruled out any possibilities at this stage and are reportedly working to identify and question individuals who may have been in contact with the victim before his disappearance.
The case has once again drawn attention to concerns over the safety and security of minority communities in parts of Bangladesh, with observers closely watching how the investigation unfolds in the coming days.
