Airstrike Hits Residential Building Near Iran’s Capital, Leaves Dozens Dead

A deadly airstrike struck a residential building in Eslamshahr, a city located southwest of Iran’s capital Tehran, killing at least 13 people and raising fresh concerns over escalating violence in the region.

According to Iranian state media reports, the strike occurred early Monday morning, targeting what appeared to be a civilian residential structure. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where parts of the building had collapsed, trapping residents under debris. Rescue operations were still underway at the time of reporting, with fears that the death toll could rise.

Local reports described scenes of devastation, with survivors and neighbors attempting to pull victims from the rubble before emergency services arrived. The identities of those killed have not yet been officially released, but initial accounts suggest that civilians, including families living in the building, were among the victims.

Authorities have not confirmed the intended target of the strike, and it remains unclear why the residential structure was hit. So far, neither the United States nor Israel—both of whom have been linked to recent military operations in Iran—have claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident comes amid an intensifying conflict in the region, where a series of airstrikes and retaliatory actions have been reported across multiple Iranian cities in recent weeks. Civilian areas have increasingly been caught in the crossfire, heightening international concern over the humanitarian impact of the ongoing hostilities.

Eslamshahr, a densely populated urban area near Tehran, has not typically been at the center of military operations, making the strike particularly alarming. Analysts say the attack could signal a widening scope of targets or possible intelligence failures in identifying strike locations.

Human rights observers have repeatedly warned about the rising number of civilian casualties in the conflict. Previous reports have indicated that hundreds of civilian structures—including homes, schools, and medical facilities—have been damaged or destroyed in recent air campaigns.

As tensions continue to rise, there are growing calls from the international community for restraint and accountability. Diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation have so far shown little progress, leaving civilians in the region increasingly vulnerable to further violence.
