Truck driver charged in January Cheat Lake crash now in jail in West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The truck driver charged in connection with a fatal January crash on the I-68 Cheat Lake bridge in Monongalia County is back in West Virginia.

Sukhjinder Singh, 37, was booked in the North Central Regional Jail on Saturday.

It’s alleged that Singh was driving a tractor-trailer recklessly during a snowstorm on Jan. 27 and pushed a car driven by Kevin Lataille of Pennsylvania over the side of the bridge into the icy lake.

Lataille’s body and car were recovered in the lake a few days after the collision.

Singh, who was arrested in California, is charged with negligent homicide. He refused to waived extradition. It took a governor’s warrant to get him back to West Virginia.

He’s in jail on $500,000 bail.
