Brits seeking a budget beach holiday can visit one of the world’s best for just £25, but it comes with a serious warning. Many are jetting off abroad for their holidays, which can leave a significant dent in the wallet.
However, there are plenty of bargains to be found for those willing to hunt them down. Particularly with budget airlines, there are some incredibly cheap flights available if you choose the right dates and times of year.
While many might expect affordable flights to Spain, it may surprise some that you can fly to one of the world’s top beaches in Iceland for just £25. Although Iceland and beach holidays may not typically go hand-in-hand, Reynisfjara Beach is a breathtaking location.
However, it does come with its risks and carries a warning from the tourist board.
Reynisfjara Beach in Iceland has been ranked as the eighth best in the world by The World’s 50 Best Beaches website, and it leads the European choices. However, those expecting golden sands and scorching sun will be surprised to find black sand and potentially lethal waves instead, reports the Mirror.
VisitIceland.com warns: “Sneaker waves make Reynisfjara beach one of the most dangerous destinations in Iceland. However, with the proper precautions, you can avoid yourself or your loved ones, adding to the number of lives lost there,” They explain the danger further: “When an ocean wave grabs you, you are knocked off your feet and it is very tough to stand up and find balance again.”
“One of the reasons for that is that the wave creates a suction that drags you out and washes the sand and gravel from under your feet. Once you are in the water, the currents will pull you away from the coast and nothing can be done to save you. The water is also freezing and you suffer from hypothermia within just a few minutes.”
The World’s 50 Best Beaches website describes the unique appeal of Reynisfjara: “Its rugged and dramatic allure, along with its sheer power, will leave you awestruck. Unlike traditional beaches with their bright colors, Reynisfjara Beach showcases a different kind of beauty that you cannot afford to miss experiencing at least once in your lifetime.”
“The black sand, sea stacks, glaciers, and columnar basalts are just a few components that make this place seem like another world altogether. You can spend hours exploring every nook and cranny, capturing different angles with your camera until your memory card is full. Simply put, if you want to feel nature at its core, this is the place.”
Visitors should be aware of the beach’s colored zone system, which includes red, yellow, and green areas. If the lights are on, it’s a signal not to enter.
Additionally, tourists are cautioned to keep a safe distance from the water’s edge due to the risk of being swept away by sudden waves.
